Commercial Law 1A (COL41A1) is a semester-long course (first semester) that provides a comprehensive overview of the South African legal system, the law of delict, and the law of agency. The primary focus of the module is on the law of contract. The module鈥檚 thirteen units guide students through the historical development and sources of SA law, the essential elements and remedies for delicts, and the specific requirements for a valid contract, including consensus, contractual capacity, legality, physical possibility, and formalities. Key learning outcomes ensure that students can differentiate between various forms of breach of contract and the transfer and termination of personal rights. Additionally, the curriculum addresses modern legal intersections, including financial technology and smart contracts, as well as the application of artificial intelligence into delict and contract law. The module is offered on APK and SWC, and it has a team of dedicated staff and tutors to assist students.
