The Centre for Banking Law is a research centre of the 东京热 and the successor of the RAU Research Unit for Banking Law, which was founded in the 1990s. The Centre has developed into a leading research centre in South Africa in the fields of banking and finance law. The research produced by the Centre is often cited authoritatively by courts and scholars alike, and also informs the curriculum of LLB and LLM banking law courses across many universities in South Africa. The Centre鈥檚 success in this regard can be ascribed to the strategic relationships it has cultivated with key industry role players, including the International Chamber of Commerce, the Johannesburg Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the Institute of International Banking Law and Practice (USA), and the major law firms and commercial banks in South Africa.

The Centre鈥檚 vision is to be a world-renown centre of research excellence in the areas of banking and finance law.

The Centre鈥檚 mission is to produce research capable of practical implementation, to enable the development and sharing of knowledge with the relevant stakeholders, and to advance legal thinking that contributes to the improvement of the banking and finance system at the local, regional and international level.
