Labour Law 1A is a 16-credit module presented at National Qualifications Framework (NQF) Level 6. This module introduces students to the foundational principles of South African labour law and equips Human Resources practitioners with the legal literacy required to identify, analyse, and address common workplace disputes. The module focuses on the sources of labour law, the distinction between individual and collective labour law, the regulation of the employment relationship through the common law and the contract of employment, and the statutory framework governing working conditions, employment equity, collective bargaining, dismissals, and unfair labour practices. Through a combination of theoretical engagement and applied workplace scenarios, students develop the ability to interpret labour legislation and apply legal principles to practical HR decision-making contexts.
