Legal Skills is a foundational first-year module that introduces aspiring law students to the intellectual methods, professional expectations, and practical competencies required for legal study and practice. The course focuses on developing the ability to think, read, and argue like a lawyer by equipping students with core academic and professional skills that underpin all areas of law. Students are trained in essential legal techniques, including reading and understanding legislation and case law, applying legal reasoning, constructing structured legal arguments, drafting basic legal documents, and exposure to legal numeracy. Emphasis is placed not only on understanding legal rules, but on learning how lawyers analyse problems, engage with authority, and communicate persuasively in written and oral form.
