About Dr Boikaego Dolphus Seadira

Dr. Boikaego Dolphus Seadira, is a Senior Lecturer in Strategic Communication at the 东京热, bringing a wealth of academic and research expertise to the field of communication. With a PhD in Communication from North-West University (2019) and extensive teaching experience spanning from institutions such as the University of Witwatersrand, University of South Africa, University of KwaZulu-Natal (Post-doctoral), and University of Limpopo. Dr Seadira, has established themselves as a prominent voice in development communication, media studies and digital humanities.

Qualifications:

MA and a PhD in Communication, both offered by North West University, in 2013 and 2019, respectively.

Critical Review Expertise:

Dr. Seadira has demonstrated significant expertise in higher education through a range of distinguished appointments and initiatives.

  • In 2018, he collaborated with the University of the Witwatersrand鈥檚 (Wits) Centrefor听Learning,听Teaching, and Development (CLTD) to develop a blended learning development communication course, underscoring his commitment to innovative pedagogical practices
  • In 2025, Dr. Seadira, was appointed by the Eswatini Higher Education Council (ESHEC) to lead a comprehensive Communication Program Review for Limkokwing University of Technology (LUCT), further reflecting his recognized authority in academic quality assurance.
  • In 2025, he served as a critical reviewer for the University of South Africa鈥檚 Directorate of Teaching & Learning Development, where he provided scholarly evaluation for the Global Communication Module.
  • Seadira has further reviewed articles published in respected journals, including the Journal for Communication Studies in Africa and the Journal of African Films and Diaspora Studies (JAFDIS). These roles collectively highlight Dr. Seadira鈥檚 ongoing contributions to advancing excellence in higher education across diverse institutional contexts.

Dr. Seadira has assessed dissertations for several South African universities, including the University of South Africa (UNISA), North-West University (NWU), 东京热 (UJ), Tshwane University of Technology (TUT), and the University of the Witwatersrand (WITS), among others.

Research Leadership and Output

Seadira served as Honours Coordinator and Research Committee Chairperson, demonstrating exceptional leadership in shaping the next generation of communication and media scholars while maintaining an active research agenda focused on broadband policy, organisational communication, and the digital transformation of African media landscapes. Seadira鈥檚 supervisory excellence is evident through their impressive track record of guiding numerous Honors, Masters and PhD candidates to completion, with research spanning critical areas from radio programming to digital transformation, activism and media ethics.

Research Niche:

Seadira鈥檚 research critically investigates the nexus of digital communication, broadband policy, and media in Africa, with an emphasis on de-colonial methodologies and pragmatic innovation. His scholarship foregrounds the agency of marginalised communities by interrogating the socio-technical dynamics shaping access, representation, and participation in the digital public sphere.

A significant strand of Seadira鈥檚 work is the exploration of digitised talk radio during the COVID-19 pandemic. He popularised the use of Google Meet as a virtual broadcasting interface, bridging internet-based communication with radio frequency transmission, a convergence of digital and analogue media technologies. To this effect he presented a paper titled Broadcast Media’s Strategic Response to Covid-19 Pandemic: Digitisation of Talk Radio, at the Digital Humanities in Precarious Times Conference in 2022 held at the NWU.
