About Prof Maud Blose
Prof Maud Blose is an Associate Professor in the Department of Communication and Media. She is a Teaching Advancements at a University (TAU) Fellow. Prof Blose is the Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL) Coordinator in the Faculty of Humanities where she initiates collaborations and partnerships with Pan African universities and universities across the globe. She is also part of the Chair in Gender, Climate Change and Sustainable Development in the MENA Region and Africa advancing international cooperation. This entails promoting research on the social impact of climate change and on indigenous knowledge and practices for adaptation to climate change, support the involvement of women at all levels in climate change initiatives, strengthen the capacity of international cooperation to mainstream gender equality and diversity in climate change. Prof Blose holds a PhD in Media and Cultural Studies from the University of KwaZulu-Natal. She is also a Fulbright Scholar with a MSc in Broadcast Journalism from the Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern University, Chicago, U.S.A. She has over a decade experience in the higher education sector teaching across film and television, journalism, communication and media studies, and supervises postgraduate students. Her experience also includes being a multimedia journalist and a columnist for a weekly newspaper. Her research areas of interest comprise media and society, representation of Black women in the media, African feminism, communicating climate change, e-learning and internationalisation in higher education.
