About Ms Hadassah Myers

Hadassah Myers has been part of the Department of Multimedia since January 2011. Her teaching areas include interaction design, technology, and speculative design, leveraging her expertise in design, systems, and futures thinking to address complex challenges, as well as interactive narrative and gamification for designing engaging, human-centred experiences.

Her current research focuses on health technology and innovation, futures literacy, and decolonial design practices. She is completing her PhD at the Wits School of Governance, where she is developing methodological approaches for designing diabetes technology within South Africa鈥檚 public health sector.

Research and supervision interests:

  • Design Futures: Using speculative design and design fiction as tools for critical inquiry and inclusive design practice.
  • Systemic Design: Tackling complex social and environmental challenges through human-centred design and systems thinking.
  • Interactive Narrative and Gamification: Exploring agency in the design of interactive, narrative-based interventions and games.
  • Health Technology: Designing cyber-physical systems for health monitoring and management in the Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR).
  • Design-led Anticipatory Governance: Applying design methods in policy labs and co-design settings, guided by foresight and futures thinking.
