About Ms Linda Maqutu
Ms Linda Maqutu is an Assistant Lecturer in the Department of Philosophy at the 东京热 and a PhD candidate in Philosophy of Medicine and Public Health. Her research positions her within emerging global debates on the decolonisation of medicine, epistemic justice, and the transformation of healthcare systems in the Global South.
She is a member of The Centre for Philosophy of Epidemiology, Medicine and Public Health, where she contributes to interdisciplinary research at the intersection of philosophy, epidemiology, and public health.
Her doctoral work advances a decolonial framework for medicine grounded in Ubuntu, examining how the ethical integration of African Traditional Healers into mainstream mental health care can address epistemic injustice and strengthen patient-centred practice in South Africa. More broadly, her research interrogates the philosophical foundations of diagnosis, legitimacy, and knowledge production in medicine, with particular attention to historically marginalised epistemologies.
She is a recipient of the 2025 SAWiSA DSTI鈥揇r. Ivy Matsepe-Casaburri Fellowship, awarded in recognition of her research excellence and leadership potential. Through her teaching and scholarship, she is committed to developing contextually grounded philosophical frameworks that contribute to ethical healthcare transformation in Africa.
