Social Security Law offers an in-depth overview of the legal framework regulating social protection in South Africa. Various schemes relevant to social insurance and social assistance (grants) are discussed, with an emphasis on the constitutional provisions that underpin socio-economic rights. Module units are designed along the International Labour Organisation鈥檚 (ILO) contingencies/risks as per the Minimum Standards Convention 102, namely; maternity, unemployment, dependents鈥 benefits, family, old age, invalidity, employment injuries and diseases and health. With the growing relevance of socio-economic rights in South Africa (seen through the prevalence of so-called service delivery protests), the module offers timely policy oriented discussions on the welfare of individuals in the Republic.
